We woke the to the start of this mornings storm. The wind was up and the waves quite
large. By around 0930 the waves were
crashing into the sea wall about 20m from our bay window and the spray was
going up at least 3 stories. There were
still several cars parked along the road on the side closest to the sea
wall. Every now and again a larger wave
would come up and shower them with a lots of water. One car in particular looked as though the
amount of water coming down on it had caved the roof in a bit. Then a little later a very large wave dumped
so much water against it the it moved forward about 5 metres and sideways about
2 metres.
We decided to spend the day in and watch the storm from out
vantage point. The emergency services closed
the road along the promenade which is directly in front of our hotel. If someone walked to close to the seaward
side of the road they would put their sirens on and come along and chase them
away.
By about midday it started to calm down a bit, although it
did continue to rain and the wind was still quite strong. Once if calmed down quite few people started
to walk along the promenade even though was still light raining.
We are going to order pizza in for dinner tonight!
