It was very windy when we got up this morning, about 50mph
(80Kph) and it is also pretty cold. At
about 1000 we walked along to the cliff railway and rode it to the top. It was very cold and windy at the top so we
retired to the café and had a cuppa and a scone for morning tea. We then went up to the camera obscura and had
a look at that, a bit disappointing.
They had an exhaust fan that let too much light in, so it was difficult
to see the image. Particularly as it was
grey outside.
There was a Coast Watch van parked nearby so we went and had
a chat to the man on duty and asked him what the small boat we had seen going
in and out of the harbour was, it was the Life Boat doing training runs (they
do it every Sunday). I noticed his
thermometer said it was 10 deg C, combined with the strong wind it was bone
chilling.
Rode the railway back down and walked to where the car is
parked to check that it is OK. Visited a
couple of shops and back to the hotel.
We sat in the bay window watching the sea and the people and
dogs walking up and down the promenade.
Later in the afternoon I went along to the shops to get some
milk, on the way the middle part of the road along the foreshore was still
closed because of the amount of rocks and gravel that had been washed up by the
storm. The little beachfront café had
shovelled all the rocks away from his building and off his outdoor area,
leaving several piles of rocks about 2m tall.
