Today is bus tour day.
We went to the nearest big red tourist bus stop (a short walk away) at
0930. Jumped on the first bus that came
along (a Brown Bus route). The bus
driver couldn’t sell us a combined boat and bus pass, so he let us ride to the
main pickup point where we bought a ticket for the Duck tour (boat on wheels
actually a LARC) combined with bus tours.
The boat tour was quite good out onto the Singapore River
that has had a barrier put across it to form a reservoir. The barrier is usually closed but can be
opened at low tide to let flood water out.
After cruising along the waterfront we took to the land and drove
through the government area of town.
We then had some lunch in a large area filled with other
people all crowded in, you just grabbed a seat at a table where there was room.
We then hopped on the Yellow bus that took us to Robinson Quay,
the botanic gardens and down the length of Orchard Road.
Next was the Red bus that took us to Little India, Chinatown
and several other places of interest.
When we got back to the Hub we wanted to get some milk and a
packet of biscuits. We headed down stairs
to where se had seen a supermarket bought our stuff and headed back upstairs, only
to find we weren’t were we thought we were and completely lost. After asking directions a couple of times we managed
to find out way back to the buses. But alas
the last Brown bus (the one we were going to take back to the hotel) for the day
had departed. After settling down I realised
that the Yellow bus went close to our hotel as well and the last one didn’t leave
until 1800. We stayed put until the bus left.
Back at the hotel at about 1900 (we had been wandering around
Singapore for about 9½ hours.
A short break and a cuppa at the hotel and out to dinner at a
restaurant across the river.
