This morning we are returning to Todmorden library to get
some details of births and marriages of Maskews that Douglas Wilson’s wife told
us were in the Books at the Todmorden Library.
We got there just before 1000 so we had a browse through a second-hand
shop over the road. Jude found a
Princess Mary Christmas tin from World War 1 so she promptly bought it as it
was quite a reasonable price.
When we go into the library we asked to see the book that
Barbara Holt told us about. It was an
index of all the births, marriages and burials in St Marys Todmorden. So we looked up the Maskews (they were
indexed by surname) and managed to get the details of those we were looking for
and a couple of extras. We then got the
fiche and managed to get copies of the original documents going back to 1810, none
before that.
We had a Cornish Pasty for lunch and headed to Stoke-on-Trent
where Jude’s Smiths come from.
On the way we didn’t want to go through Manchester, however,
the NavMan had different ideas and before we knew it we were driving through the
CBD of Manchester! Nearly took a turn into
a bus only street, but managed to recover.
Tomorrow bright and early we will head to the library to see
what we can find out.
