Up to get car packed before breakfast at 0800. Took the first suit case down, lift not
working walked down back stairs, fire exit only alarmed, back up 1 flight of
steps to lobby, down 1 flight of stairs, walked round back to car and put case
in. back up 3 flights of steps to
room. Down with second case. Back up 3 flights of stairs. Ready for breakfast!! All the while Jude sitting at the desk
writing emails!!
Just realised that today is a long drive. We had trouble booking accommodation so we
kept moving further south and we have a couple of stops to make.
We stopped by a Loch Lamond to have a cuppa and got talking
to a Water Warden (equivalent to our Fisheries Inspectors) who was ex British
Parra. He served in the Falklands to
Afghanistan. He had a great dog that he
had looking for rabbits.
Nest stop was Hamilton, just outside Glasgow, to look for
information about Ann Atkinson (nee Graham).
Some say she was born there so we headed for the Library and were told
we should probably go to the Museum.
Nothing there but we decided to have lunch. During lunch we were checking up on her
details and now don’t believe she was born there hat all, but rather she was
born in Colby, Westmoreland.
Next stop Dumfries looking for a War Memorial with a Stringfellow
on it for Sandra. We found one, but it was
the wrong one. We asked a lady in a church
if there was another one in the town and she gave us directions to the other
side of the river. We found the Memorial
and the name. Jude tried to phone Sandra,
but she didn’t answer and it was only 2330 in Perth!
The details of the memorial are: It is on the corner of New Abbey Road and Rotchtell
Road, Dumphries (the GPS coordinates are 55.062879,-3.621591)
So we headed for Kendal and our Days Inn accommodation.
Not a bad room, probably the best view since we started
out. Looks across some fields to a lake.
