Today we decided we would go over the sea to Skye.
We headed off on the route that would take us over the Skye Bridge,
yes Skye is now connected by bridge to the mainland. So, I guess technically, you don’t have to go over
the sea anymore.
Once we go onto Skye the terrain is pretty rugged and there isn’t
much vegetation only a few trees in the valleys and a lot of them seem to be pine
plantations. Up on top of many of the maintains
it is just bare rock and scree slopes. There
are some pretty little villages and a lot of the views are pretty good. We stopped alongside a loch and had morning tea
overlooking a castle, then went up to Portree and had lunch. A very popular place with travellers and very difficult
to find parking. But once again a nice little
village.
We saw quite a few fish farms in the inlets along the coast.
On the way back we decided to take the ferry from Armadale to
Mallaig. It turned out that taking the ferry
only saved about 30 miles!
We didn’t think Skye lived up to its reputation for being a really
nice place. Sure there was rugged scenery
and coastline and a few interesting villages. But by and large it looked a pretty inhospitable
place. Not the sort of place I would like
to get snowed in at in winter!
Jude went out shopping while I decided to catch up on the emails…I
wonder if she will find her way back to the hotel!!
