Left Leicester and headed toward Nottingham. Eventually found the Castle (that isn’t a
castle any more) it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, the last
build was a mansion that sits atop the hill that commands most of
Nottingham. It is now a museum. Today there was a South Asian festival in the
grounds…it seemed to be mostly Indian. When
we were booking our tour of the caves one of the staff said he had grown up in
Perth, in Swanbourne, Jude had quite a long chat to him. We had some of the food on offer for lunch.
We did a tour of the limestone caves beneath the hill. It really turned out to be more of a history
of the English monarchs. We walked down
464 stairs, luckily we then walked up the street outside and didn’t have to
climb the stairs.
Then we headed off to Sherwood Forest. I was expecting huge tall straight oak
trees. Well they were mostly short and
gnarled, Jude fitted in. We saw quite a
few birds and some squirrels and dog with their owners. We walked to the Major Oak. A rather large squat tree that is evidently
very old.
Then off to our digs in Sheffield, an Ibis Hotel. Close to the centre of town, room quite
small, shower even smaller. Went out to
find some dinner, ended up with pizza.
Looks like your having fun
