First thing on the agenda this morning was some
washing. We located a laundrette as they
call them here. What an interesting hour
and a half. The owner was a middle aged
Brit. Most of her customers seemed to be
of Pakistani origin. We chatted to two
young women in particular about all sorts of things including arranged
marriages (evidently there is a difference between and arranged marriage and a
forced marriage). They spoke very good
English.
Having taken our washing back to the hotel we headed to the
centre of Sheffield and the Town Square and Winter Garden. Had lunch at a little café which was very
nice. But a rather large lady came in
with a man and sat down to eat a bun full of chips and then the rest of the
chips that were on her plate…it was pretty gross!
Jude also made a couple of purchases there. Can’t say too much or the wrong person might
find out.
Then a stroll through the botanical gardens where we saw a
number of squirrels running about the lawn.
One even came over and stood by Jude.
Jude had to a fix of antique shops so we headed off to the
Sheffield Antique Quarter. Browsed
through some shops and at the last one we found a little café upstairs where we
had a cup of tea, scones jam and cream.
The last thing for the day was some food shopping for the
next couple of days. We found a Waitrose
and bought the necessities. We also got a
pork pie for dinner (we were going to go to the bistro over the road from the hotel
but changed our mind). There is a small area
a the hotel where you an prepare your own meals, so we heated up our pie and tucked
in.
Tried to book a stay in York for 3 nights from tomorrow night
and had a lot of trouble finding something (at a reasonable price). So I guess we will find out what it is like when
we get there.
