Today was to be spent trying to get into the churches where her ancestors were baptised or married.

First we headed off to Christ Church at Tunstall, however the times on the web were incorrect, spoke to a man and he said service was at 0930, not 0830.

So, we didn’t waste time we decided to check out St James the Great church in Audley.  The church was shut, however a little old lady walked up and told us that the church would be opened shortly.  We waited and sure enough we managed to get into the church and take a few photo and talk to people there.  They didn’t seem to know much about it.

We then headed back to Christ Church.  It was open and we managed to get inside and once again take some photos.  They told us quite a bit about the church, we also talked to the organist of 50 odd years.

We then headed off to St Peters Church in Caverswall.  Sadly it was closed and the other day when we were there we failed to notice that there was a sign on the door saying that wouldn’t be a service today.  Jude rang the number on the notice board and the lady who answered said she was off to church, but would be able to open it for us at 1400.

Back to the hotel for several hours, had lunch.  Jude found another church she wanted to visit at Talke Pits.

Back to Caverswall.  The man who opened up the church for us was great.  He obviously know quite a bit about the church and it is very old.  He told us many stories and pointed out lots of things in the church.

On the way home we stopped to get some groceries and headed up to St Martins at Talke Pits.  A quaint little church that looks like part of it is quite old while part is newer.  It was locked so we just took some photos from outside.  When we were leaving we had a chat to a bloke about it.  He only had a few teeth left and they were in bad shape!

Back to the hotel for a cuppa and rest.
