This morning we headed out to check out the tourist train
ride from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog.
The train used to carry slate from the mines here down to be shipped
around the UK and the world. The mines
have been operating for hundreds of years.
The track is quite steep and cut into the side of the very steep
mountain sides, at one point the line goes over itself circles around and goes
under itself. There are also lots of narrow
bridges over deep ravines.
The train was delayed because the windy conditions yesterday
and overnight had brought some trees down over the line and cut power and signal
lines. We left home about 1000 and got back
about 1600. The scenery was spectacular!
Check the engine out, it is double ended!
