Up for our breakfast at the B&B at 0800. Then off to explore Eyemouth. It is a small old fishing village. The tide was low when we got there, but by
the time we left it had come up about 3m.
We saw men restoring a small old clinker boat as well as big modern
fishing boats up on the slips being worked on.
In times past Eyemouth was a place of smugglers and men of
doubtful repute!
There were 3 seals in the harbour, one laying on an orange
floating platform.
Its grey overcast and very cold (max about 11) so we retired
to a café with views over the harbour and out to sea for morning tea.
We then went to the Eyemouth museum that tells the story of
castles, fishing and farming. There was
a big storm in the mid 1800s in which about 120 fishermen were lost at
sea. They have erected a memorial to the
wives and bairns overlooking the harbour.
We ended up spending about 5 hours wandering around a very
small village!! And not walking very far
at all.
We then had lunch and headed off to Abbs another smaller
fishing village. We spent about an hour
wandering around then decided we would head back to the B&B. On the way we cased a couple of place for
dinner and had a wander around the grounds of the old Priory in Coldingham.
On the way to dinner we saw a Fishman cleaning his fish and throwing
the waste to the seals. Had dinner at The
Contented Soul.
